This started as a recap of Homecoming 2010 but morphed into a message on our anniversary, crossed over to talk about our history, then playoffs got included, and then about our vision for the future – you get the point there is a lot happening! And it is all good.
Thanks & Thanksgiving…
First a special Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Holiday wish to all of you and your families – our families. At this special time of the year we have a lot to be thankful for – all of us regardless of current circumstance. As I read an article while getting a haircut yesterday – it was a review of TNT’s new “Glory Days”, but the message was about college shows don’t succeed in the USA because only 25% of the population can identify with it because that is all that attends college – well we are all in that 25%. We have all done our taxes and got to the end where it tells you are at the top 10%, 5%, or some 1% of the income in the US. We are fortunate and have much to be thankful for – we live in the US and not somewhere else.
A special thanks to all of our Sigma Nu brothers and Theta Kappa alumni serving (and served) in the Armed Forces, really to anyone in the armed forces, both in the USA and abroad – keep safe!
GSU Eagles – One more time…
Playoffs – we are back and the stands are shouting “one more time” – wherever we end up at the end of the season – it is official – the GSU Eagles are back! From a stellar Homecoming and phenomenal victory against Appalachian State (#1 seed in Playoffs) in overtime finishing the season with 3 consecutive victories, GSU made it to the playoffs on the last day. It will be fun and it will be a great tee up for next year. Regardless if you are at Georgia Tech at Georgia, Auburn at Alabama, Florida at Florida State, at Paulson stadium, at home, or somewhere else – we know where all of your hearts will be. GO EAGLES!
Tickets are available at GSU and friends have a couple extras on the 50 yard line, so click here and we will tell you if some are left or if we have enough requests to get a small block for Sigma Nus, but you know who to call to see if he has any more tickets.
Homecoming 2010 / Homecoming 2011 – enough said…
We had a great time and we missed many of you, but save the date for 2011 – it is Nov. 3-6, 2011! If you missed it or if you haven’t viewed them – check out our photos. This coming year will be the 25th anniversary of the “Alumni Initiation of 1986”, the 14 charter members who were unable to make it the chartering. This is one event which really jumpstarted our alumni program and drive for a house. There will be a very big celebration and we want everyone to be there. We have rooms at 3 different hotels to accommodate the crowd! To see some of the fun this year you can see the slideshows, view photos, download, mark, and comment on the fun at www.sigmanugsu.com/homecoming-2010, but you will likely need to login.
An important Anniversary – November 17th…
We just celebrated our 43rd anniversary of the founding of “Nu Sigma”, the start of our colonization process with Sigma Nu, and the split from the local APO service fraternity. Many thanks to those founders who got our colony off the ground back on November 17, 1967. Speaking of our founding we are now working on a history project, so read on.
History, our history, – History 041 the project…
2011 is a big year for us as I noted above, but we will make it even bigger with some other news with some surprises to come as well. The big news is during this year, we will start to write and record (video) the Theta Kappa history. We will be asking for everyone’s help, but we will be asking each commander & officer team to step up and help write a history of their term. We want something from everyone – we want written history, newspaper clipping, yearbook stuff, GSU news, photos, videos, audio clip, rush slideshows, everything for our archive. We will video record key alumni for posterity, so jump into this project and help – you can nominate someone to be captured, but most of all – what can you do? Forward this email to EVERY Theta Kappa Alumnus you know, whether you think they on our email list or not, get other alumni involved, plan for homecoming, and help us find the alumni that are not registered for the website. If you are not registered for the website – do it today or do it this weekend – then start sending us your history! EACH and EVERY Theta Kappa Initiate has a great story to tell, DO TELL! Go to www.SigmaNuGSU.com/history for more!
Collegiate Chapter Updates…
The Collegiate Chapter is off and running in 2010; ready for 2011 which will be even bigger! The chapter has recently initiated 20 brothers and 93% of the fall candidate class! BTW – Theta Kappa just eclipsed the 750 initiate number mark (Michael Chalkley is ThK 750); we are now up to 751 with 50 of those since the re-chartering! Elections were just completed for the 2010-2011 term and you can see them on the website at www.SigmaNuGSU.com/incoming-officers. Congratulations to the incoming commander, Scott Mobley (ThK 710), who is our 41st Commander at Theta Kappa. A special thanks to the outgoing Commander (and previously the Marshal), Tyler Elder (ThK 694), on a great year and his upcoming graduation.
In addition to Tyler’s graduation at the end of this semester, Treasurer Luke Friesen (ThK 705), and a past Alumni Contact & past Marshal Bobby Cubbison (ThK 690) will graduate as well. Tyler is graduating in Construction Management with a minor in Business, Luke in Accounting, and Bobby in Logistics Management. Congratulations to all of these young men! I understand that each of these soon-to-be graduates has committed to pay their 2011 Alumni Dues and Homecoming Fee right away after they start their new careers and you can too at www.SigmaNuGSU.com/alumnidues.
