Brother William R. (Billy) Hickman, Jr. ΘK 62, a 1974 graduate of Georgia Southern University was honored as the 2013 College of Business Administration Alumnus of the Year. The award was bestowed for his outstanding career accomplishments and support of their alma mater during the annual Alumni Association Awards Banquet held on Sat., April 6, 2013 at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center on the GSU campus. Billy is partner at Dabbs, Hickman, Hill and Cannon, LLP, in Statesboro where he was the managing partner from 1998-2008. He is an alumnus of the Theta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity where he has been involved in the alumni chapter and house corporation since nearly his graduation.
Billy was influential in the fundraising and leadership during the drive for the purchase, construction, financing, and mortgage elimination of the Chapter House. He worked collaboratively with other local and non-local alumni to secure financing for the house against many obstacles. Billy was one of the alumni who stepped forward in 1988 to state it was time to get started we then hired the builder for the House. In 2000, he “captained” a team with his son, Rusty (ΘK 515), which helped drive the payoff of the mortgage in 2005. He continues to be active in the Theta Kappa House Corporation as the Vice President, now for almost 30 years. Billy was recognized in 1989 at the Dedication of the Chapter House, in 1997 as our Alumnus of the Year, and in 2005 at the Celebration of the elimination of the mortgage, for his personal contributions and team efforts in leadership of our alumni.
Billy and his wife Jo Ann reside in Statesboro, where they have two adult children, Rusty and Rhett, and a grandchild. Billy is currently the President of the Downtown Rotary Club and has been involved in numerous civic organizations during his career. Congratulations to Billy and his family for this prestigious and well deserved award from Georgia Southern.
