SUMMARY: Over the past year, Theta Kappa continues to thrive and improve dramatically, both with internal and external efforts. We are now at Theta Kappa 1188 with our Spring 2025 candidate class of 7 new men. In the fall we worked hard to recruit 25 outstanding men, so an increase of 32 for the year. Those new members have tried to quickly showcase their commitment to the chapter by volunteering for sorority events and dances and even putting together a couple of events. With 32 new brothers, we find Sigma Nu in a great spot at GSU with 107 active brothers. We believe in the fall we can recruit similar numbers, if not more, quality candidates that uphold the Sigma Nu pillars. Our two Recruitment chairs, Logan Barnes (1141) and Lance ReDavid (1159), have already begun efforts for next year's Fall rush and are planning events in the summer to find recruits. It’s inevitable, but we do have 14 members ending their collegiate years with graduation in the Spring and 2 more in the fall, so we’’ return in the fall with 93.
Overall, we have been incredibly impressed with our newest members, and we are excited to take this new momentum into the next academic year as we strive to reach at least 120 members in our fall semester, and that will be one of the largest numbers this chapter has seen in a while. In addition to our increasing membership numbers, we have succeeded in our philanthropic efforts. We placed among the top three chapters in multiple campus philanthropic events, and it seems to be becoming a stronger, better chapter day by day.
ACADEMIC: For the Fall academic semester, we had a new chapter accomplishment with one of the highest GPAs on record, and one of the highest on row with a 3.09 overall GPA for the chapter. Last Spring we had a 3.08, so we’re on a trend and great track. This Spring semester isn’t over yet, but we plan to have a high overall GPA, which has been traditionally higher in the Spring semester.
This year we added a CAREER DEVELOPMENT aspect to help guide brothers achieve enhanced career success and get an advanced start at work, through our inaugural Industry Advancement Weekend for Construction careers. For this weekend, alumni from our chapter came back to share their personal experiences and knowledge in their construction fields with members majoring in construction management. This advancement weekend was a trial to see how it would go, and since it went great, we hope to expand to business majors this coming school year.
ATHLETICS: This year, we have excelled in most sports. Some of the accomplishments: we placed 2nd in Fraternity Basketball, and didn’t lose a single game until the final. We won the fraternity volleyball championship, placing 1st. We then won both ΦΜ and AΩΠ’s volleyball tournaments, beating Sigma Chi in the ΦΜ tournament and SAE in the AΩΠ tournament, so those wins were especially sweet. We recently won the 4v4 Flag football championship.
PHILANTHROPY: This year, we have done great with bringing in new ideas for our philanthropy, which is still focused on suicide prevention. Last year's philanthropy chair, Peyton McMillan (1073), did an excellent job for our white rose week in the fall and ended the week with a yacht-themed party to thank everyone for showing up this important philanthropy. Our 2024-25 Philanthropy Chair, Jack Teachworth (1129), is an affiliate from LSU who has brought new ideas to the table furthering our philanthropy efforts day by day. Some events Jack has already planned were a Chili cookoff with AΔΠ in January and has planned a percentage night this week with ΧΩ at Del Sur.
BROTHERHOOD: Here’s a quick update from our 2025 Brotherhood Chair, Thomas Maloney (1108), to improve brotherhood and strengthen the bonds between brothers as we continue to grow. He says they’re many plans & goals to accomplish this next semester, such as more grilling out at the house and corn hole tournaments can be a great way for us to get together and have a good time. We are setting up brotherhood and sisterhood events with sororities, which will be a new thing, but in the long run will improve our relations with sororities, in the Greek community, and a great representation to Georgia Southern. Overall, I would like to just have simpler events where everyone just gets together and hangs out. We’ve already done several large tournaments for cornhole, dye, and basketball.
