Statesboro, Georgia

Our own Sigma Nu chapter at Georgia Southern University just completed the 1st GSU Relay for Life and we are proud to say that they raised over $5400 for this worthy cause! First thank you and congratulations to the entire chapter, our donors, and the community service committee, but especially to our Relay for Life Coordinator, who was a sophomore at GSU and a member of the Service & Philanthropy Committee.
Additionally it should be noted that Theta Kappa was the top fundraiser for the inaugural event and was awarded the “Golden Eagle Award” for being the top fundraiser. “The members really went all out on this event and enjoyed it as well, so it was a success on many levels”, said Brian Griffin, ΘΚ 759, a GSU sophomore and the Service & Philanthropy Committee Chairman.
Look for more information and photos of this event in the very near future.
The GSU Relay for Life is Friday, April 12th!
Why do we participate in Relay for Life?
Unfortunately, we all know someone either fighting cancer or who has fought cancer, and even more unfortunate, we all know someone who has lost that battle to cancer. Just two years out of college, our Service Advisor Clint Murphy was diagnosed with testicular cancer, the most common form of cancer for men 18-35. Many of you may not know, but one of our active brothers, Dan Bennison, recently had to move back home to New York because he is fighting cancer. We are participating for Dan. It's not lost on us the alumni that we have lost to this disease. We are participating in this event in honor of the memory of Ferrell Penland, Duane Nunnally, Dan Murray, Mike Brady and others. We, as collegiates, are all young and cannot relate to being parents, be we've all certainly kept brother Zach Grabill and his son Aiden in our hearts and prayers as his son has to fight this disease at only 3 years old. We are doing this for Zach and his son.
As the brothers in Sigma Nu, we proudly ask for you to please support our efforts by making a donation towards this worthy cause. With so many alumni, if each of us gives $25, $50, $75, $100 or more towards this event, together we can make a significant impact in raising funds for more research to fight this disease. Your support will help us to be a leader on campus, an organization that can be counted on, and one that is a contributing force to the betterment of the University and Statesboro community.
