Congratulations to the Theta Kappa Chapter and Community Service & Philanthropy Chairman, Brian Griffin (ΘΚ 759), for winning the 2012-13 GSU Leadership Award for “Outstanding Charitable Fundraiser of the Year”! The award recognized the October 2012 Multiple Sclerosis Benefit Concert (ΣND MS Benefit) as the most outstanding charitable fundraiser, which Brian organized and led. Theta Kappa donated close to $5,000 to the Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in a ceremony at the Chapter House. The chapter was presented the award at the banquet for the 16th Annual Georgia Southern University Leadership Awards held on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Brian Griffin accepted the award on behalf of the Chapter.
Brian Griffin, the chapter community service and philanthropy chairman has stated that the ΣND MS Benefit Concert will be an annual event, which will be held in October each year. The ΣND MS Benefit Concert was created in honor of Dr. Charles W. Griffin, who is the father of the fundraiser’s creator and organizer, Brian Griffin. Dr. Griffin is a fellow Brother of Sigma Nu (UGA) and has had Multiple Sclerosis for over 18 years. “My father is the most inspirational person I have ever met in my life. The upbeat way he deals with the day-to-day hardships of MS is nothing short of amazing.” Griffin said. Further the chapter has decided to rename the event to “The Charles W. Griffin ΣND MS Benefit Concert”. In addition to the concert, the chapter has participated in four Habitat for Humanity projects, the GSU Relay for Life where they won the Golden Eagle Award as the top fundraiser, and a “Real Men Read” Reading Project with a local elementary school all during the 2012-2013 school year.
